The last step in the pathway to spiritual power is consecration. It is not enough to die to self; I must live for Christ. Consecration is the total devotion of my life to Jesus Christ. It is not just the laying down of MY will, it is the picking up of HIS will. If I desire the power of the Holy Spirit in my life, I must be fully dedicated to Jesus Christ.
In Leviticus, we find many pictures of the Christian life. Leprosy is used to show how sin destroys me. It alienates me from God and from others. Perhaps the strangest part of the laws on leprosy is that when someone became completely covered with leprosy, he was declared clean. I must come to an end of myself. When I can say, “In my flesh dwell no good thing,” then I will run to Jesus for forgiveness.
In Leviticus a leper could only be declared clean by the High Priest, a picture of Jesus justifying us through His sacrifice. The blood of the sacrifice had to be systematically applied to various parts of the now-cleansed, former leper. We must systematically confess all sin and apply the blood of Christ to each and every area of our lives.
The final step in the purification process was the application of oil, which is a picture of the Holy Spirit. The oil was placed on the ear; we must consecrate our ears to listen to the voice of God. It was then placed on the thumb; we must consecrate our hands to do the work God has laid out for us. The oil was then placed on the toe; we must consecrate our feet to walk in the Spirit and go wherever He leads. The remaining oil was poured on the head; we must consecrate our entire being to the Holy Spirit.
This is the living sacrifice that Paul calls us to in Romans 12. It is being totally consumed by the Spirit as a burnt offering to the Lord. This is the only way to be filled with the Spirit. We must consecrate our entire lives to Him to use as He sees fit.
Will you do this? Will you confess all known sin? Will you consecrate your entire life to the Lord and His Kingdom? What is holding you back? What can you not part with? Will you dedicate your life to Christ? This is the only pathway to spiritual power.
