Faith in the Divine Savior (John 12:44-50)

Faith in the Divine Savior (John 12:44-50)

In this passage, Jesus gives us a summary of His teachings.

Jesus is God

Many people believe that they are right with God because they believe in God. However, Jesus is very clear that it is only through Him that people can come to God. He is God. To reject Jesus is to reject God. To receive Jesus is to receive God.

Jesus saves from sin

Jesus did not come to save people from hell and take them to heaven while leaving them in their sin. He came to deliver them from the darkness and sin that leads them to hell. He has come to bring people out of their darkness and into His light. Salvation is primarily from sin; those who are truly born again will no longer live in darkness but walk in the light.

We will be judged by Jesus’ teachings

Everyone believes that they are right with God even though Jesus’ word clearly states otherwise. Many people will flat out reject the teachings of Jesus yet believe that they will go to heaven. Jesus is clear that it is His teachings that will judge us. We cannot skirt Jesus’ words and survive the Judgment. Jesus has come to tell us how God will judge us on that day. God will judge us according to His Word. If you are right with God you will take seriously the teachings of Scripture.

Jesus came to save

We are already condemned sinners. Jesus did not come to berate and damn us in our sin. He came to deliver us. His teachings were intended to show us the way to everlasting life. If God wanted to condemn us He would not have sent His Son to show us the criteria by which we will be judged, and He definitely would not have sent His Son to save us from our sin. God loves you and wants to deliver you from those things that are destroying your soul.

Salvation is only by faith in Jesus

Jesus clearly shows us that we have a simple choice, either believe Jesus or reject Him. There is no middle ground. Salvation is found in simply believing that Jesus is the Son of God and the Anointed Savior (Christ) of mankind.

Application

Do you believe in Jesus? As a believer will you trust His Word? Will you call others to faith in Christ?
