The Family – Children (Part 2)

We saw last time that children are blessings from the Lord. This week we will look at the question, “Who does God entrust children to?” Parents? The State? The Church? Society?

And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant. Genesis 33:4-5

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalm 127:3

All things belong to God including children. However, God has graciously given children to parents. Parents should be wise stewards of the children that God has graciously given to them.

And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. Malachi 2:15

Children are the natural fruit of marriage because God desires for parents to raise godly children.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. Deuteronomy 6:4-8

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4

Parents are to be the ones who raise their children to love and obey God. This is something that God has entrusted to parents, not the church or the state.

And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the Lord your God: but who are they that shall go? And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the Lord. And he said unto them, Let the Lord be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the Lord; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence. Exodus 10:7-11

Pharaoh refuses to let the Israelites leave with their wives and children. He will only let the men go. Satan wants your children. He will use whatever means he can, including the government, to steal your children.

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear. Deuteronomy 21:18-21

Even stubborn and rebellious children are under the authority of their parents, not the government. Parents are the ones tasked with disciplining their children and society/government is only to be involved at the specific request of the parents.

The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. Adolf Hitler

These three quotes by Hitler clearly show that the spirit of Pharaoh is still alive and well in our age.

These quotes from the Communist Manifesto also clearly show the intention of destroying the parent-child relationship through education.

Children belong to God, not the government. God has entrusted them to families, not society. We must encourage parents to view their children as God-given blessings for which they alone are responsible. We must teach parents to assume the responsibility for their children and shun the idea that children belong to the collective.
