“The Linchpin of Christianity” – 1 Corinthians 15:3-8

Main thoughts:
As we look at the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Paul writes to the Corinthians about how important the Resurrection is to Christianity. Without it, there is no Christian faith. He recites an early creed of Christianity which lays out for us the whole message of Christ.

The Most Important Message
Paul begins by telling us that this message is the most important message there is. It was not just a message that he delivered first; the word means the most important or prime thing. The message of Jesus’ death and resurrection is the most important message in the world.

A Received Message
Paul did not come up with this message on his own. Instead, he received this message directly from God. He had gone into the desert to be alone with God, and this message is what God revealed to him. From the desert he went straight to Peter who was an eye witness to the death and resurrection of Jesus. Peter confirmed the message that Paul received from God.

Christ died for our sins
The message is that Jesus is the Christ. He is God’s appointed Savior. Apart from Him there is no hope. Jesus died on the cross bearing the wrath of God for our sins. He died as the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world. He was made sin so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

He was buried and rose again
Jesus was then buried and rose again the third day. He had power to lay down His life and power to take it again. This resurrection proved Who He was and confirmed that His sacrifice on the cross truly did atone for sinners. There is no other proof needed of Christianity. The resurrection proves it all. This power that raised Jesus now changes those who believe in Him.

According to the Scriptures
All of these things are in complete accordance with the Scriptures. Jesus fulfilled every prophecy ever made concerning the Messiah. He did exactly what the Bible said He would do. The Scriptures confirm Him as the Messiah.

The message is confirmed by eyewitnesses
There were also many other eyewitnesses to Jesus’ resurrection. The resurrection is one of the most witnessed events in all of ancient history.

Application:
Jesus has died on the cross for our sins and risen again from the dead. He is the only way to be reconciled to God. Will you believe in Him? Will you tell others this message?
