Femininity

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 1:27

Although man was created first, both man and woman bear the image of God. Male and female are of equal value and worth in the eyes of God.

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

Genesis 2:18-20

God knows that Adam cannot be a true reflection of His glory by being alone. Adam cannot carry out his God-given task of dominion alone. Adam must have a helper that is specifically suited to his needs. God brings animals to Adam to help him in his task, but the animals are not uniquely designed to help Adam carry out his task.

And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Genesis 2:21-23

God makes Adam a suitable helper. Woman is made from man’s rib. This indicates that a woman was created to be near to a man’s heart and under his arms of protection. She was not created to lead. She was created to help the man in his task of dominion.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Genesis 2:28

The woman is given the task of dominion just like Adam is, but her role in that task is different. She plays a supporting role as opposed to a leading role. She was created to help Adam in the areas where he is deficient. Notice that God gives Adam the task of dominion in verse 26, but in verse 28 He gives Adam and Eve the blessing of being fruitful and multiplying. Adam’s calling requires a tremendous amount of man power, something the animals cannot help him with. Part of Eve’s help that she is to provide for her husband is in the bearing and raising of many children.

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

1 Timothy 2:11-15

The phrase “she shall be saved in childbearing” does not speak of salvation in the eternal sense. What Paul is saying is that God did not give the woman the task of authority and leadership, but that what the woman was created to do was support the man and raise up the next generation of believers. The female gender is “saved” by bearing children. In other words, women have inestimable value and cannot be discarded because the whole human race exists because of women and the Savior was the seed of the woman, not the man.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Titus 2:3-5

Women find their greatest satisfaction in glorifying God by supporting the man God has placed over them in his task of dominion. This means that most of the time women will find their greatest fulfillment in loving their husbands and children.
