The Infinite Power of Christ (John 10:17-18)

The Infinite Power of Christ (John 10:17-18)

Jesus now explains that He has the authority to do all these things because of the love the Father has towards Him and the power that He has bestowed upon Him. Jesus has power to lay down His life and power to take it again. This is a power that is beyond our wildest imagination or dreams. This is an infinite power that we cannot even comprehend.

Jesus has infinite power

Jesus has all authority and power in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18.) He has the power to do what we cannot even begin to imagine (1 Corinthians 2:9.) Many times we lose hope for nations, marriages, people, communities, churches, etc. because we cannot see how they can be redeemed. Jesus has the power to redeem that which we so easily discard (Matthew 12:20.) In fact, God normally uses the things that are discarded by this world to show His power (1 Corinthians 1:26-31.)

We are powerless

We have often gotten things completely backward. We live as if we had the power to choose life and the power to choose death. However, the Scripture is clear. We are without strength (Romans 5:6.) We literally can do nothing apart from Jesus and His power (John 15:5.) We often despair because we have done all that we can do. Therein lies the problem; we could do nothing at all.

Faith sees the infinite power of Christ

This infinite power of Christ is shown on behalf of those who trust Christ with their whole being. He waits to show His power on behalf of those whose heart is completely trusting in Him (2 Chronicles 16:9.) The reason we do not see Christ’s power is because of our unbelief (Matthew 13:58.) We simply do not believe that God either has the power or desire to move on our behalf. We must believe in Jesus Christ’s infinite power as seen in His power over life and death. We must trust Him with our souls, bodies, families, etc.

Application

Will you believe in Jesus Christ and what He has done? For salvation? For victory over sin? For fruit from your labors? For the salvation of the lost? For the redemption of your marriage?
