Which Jesus Do You Believe In? (John 14:6-11)

Which Jesus Do You Believe In? (John 14:6-11)

Jesus continues to explain to His disciples that He is not just the only way to the Father, but that to see Jesus is to see the Father.

Jesus is clear

Jesus is very clear that He is one with God the Father; He is God in the flesh. The mystery of the Trinity is clearly taught here by Jesus Christ. Jesus is a separate being than God the Father, yet He is God the Father. There is no ambiguity or vagueness in Jesus’ speech. It is very clear that Jesus is here teaching the doctrine of the Trinity; He is also affirming His own deity.

People preach a false Jesus

In 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 Paul warns us that false teachers will preach another Jesus. They will claim to follow Scripture, but they will present a distorted image of Jesus. We must be very diligent to ensure that we are following the right Jesus. We must be very careful to know Jesus and accept Him as He is. The devil wants to distort our understanding of Jesus so that we follow an illusion as opposed to the real person of Jesus Christ.

The Neo-orthodox heresy

Neo-orthodoxy overtook most denominations in the 1940’s and continues to dominate most “Christian” teaching. Neo-orthodoxy teaches that all Scripture must be understood through Jesus, which is a true statement. The problem is that neo-orthodoxy creates a “Jesus” that is not the historical Jesus of Scripture. In fact neo-orthodoxy will use this made up “Jesus” to actually discredit the very teachings of Jesus as recorded in Scripture. (E.g. “Jesus would never have said that, so we know that someone inserted that verse into the New Testament.”) True orthodoxy is that all Scripture is to be interpreted through Jesus as He is revealed in Scripture.

We must believe

Jesus is clear. What God requires of us is faith in Jesus as the Divine Savior. His miraculous works were done to strengthen our faith that He is the Messiah. We must avoid any teaching that calls us away from Faith Alone in Jesus Alone as revealed in Scripture Alone.

Application

Who are you following? Are you following the Jesus of Scripture? Do you believe that Jesus is God just as He said?
