Behold the Lamb (John 1:29)

Behold the Lamb (John 1:29)

We are to behold Jesus

Salvation is by beholding, or looking to Jesus alone. This beholding is a great picture of faith. It is not our works that save us; it is our looking to Jesus that saves us. The word “behold” is imperative; this means that it is absolutely necessary to believe in Christ. It is also singular, meaning that faith must be exercised by each individual who desires salvation.

Jesus is the Lamb

Jesus is the Lamb who saves us from death and slavery. Jesus’ blood covers all who behold Him so that death might pass over those who believe. Jesus is the substitute sacrifice that dies in our place.

Jesus is the Lamb of God

Jesus is God’s perfect provision for us. He is God’s chosen Savior. God has appointed that salvation would only be found in Jesus.

Jesus takes away sin

Jesus not only saves us from death, but He also delivers us from sin. He literally takes away our sin. Jesus does not just deliver the guilty from death, but He takes away the sin that brought about the guilt. There is freedom from sin in Jesus.

Jesus’ died to redeem all of creation

Jesus does not just save one group of people. His salvation is for everyone who will behold Him. He has also come to reverse the curse that was placed on all of creation because of Adam’s sin. He has come to take away sin and all its effects from all of creation.

Application

We must believe in Jesus Christ.
