Honoring Your Parents (Mark 7:6-13)
Jesus confronts the religious leaders of His day for ignoring what God says in order to promote their own traditions. Corban vs. Commandments He uses the practice of Corban to prove His point. God places a high value on honoring ones parents; He even instituted the death penalty for children who cursed their parents. Jesus makes clear that this honor is due our parents until their death and means that we should care for them in their old age. Corban…
Watching Over Your Own Soul – Rich Young Ruler
To better understand our own sins and temptations we are going to be doing case studies on people in the Bible. We will start with the rich young ruler. And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Thou knowest…
Evangelism Training (Part 9)
Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.Mark 1:14-15 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth…
Evangelism Training (Part 8)
Once we have identified the root issues of idolatry and sin, what is next? Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.Mark 1:14-15 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what…
Foundation 10: Evangelism (Mark 5:15-20)
Evangelism should be natural Whenever anyone had an encounter with Jesus they instantly told everyone about it. Many times Jesus told them not to tell anyone, yet they told everyone anyway. Throughout the New Testament sharing what Jesus had done for you was a natural thing that virtually everyone did without prompting or command. Self-righteousness kills evangelism The reason we have such a hard time sharing the Gospel is that we have forgotten what we were when Christ found us.…
Evangelism – Where do we begin? (Part 1)
If God has called us to seek out the lost, where do we begin? And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.Mark 5:18-19 Upon coming to faith in Christ, the man was told…
The Family – Origins and Purpose
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto…
Three God Ordained Systems
As we look at how to apply God’s Word to our lives, the next thing we must understand is that God has established three systems through which He works, the family, the Church, and human government. It is important to remember that in each of these systems He still maintains complete control and has establish clear limits for each one. We must never allow any system to become an entity independent of God’s sovereign control. For unto us a child…
Scripture Alone
October 31 marks the 498th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. The Reformation began when Martin Luther nailed 95 points of debate with the pope and the Catholic Church to the church door. The time before the Reformation was one of great spiritual darkness. This darkness was caused because of a complete and total ignorance of God’s Word by all people. It was only when people began to study the Word of God for themselves that they were brought out of…
The End Result: Evangelism
It is interesting to note that Jesus’ commands for evangelism and missions come at the end of His ministry. Also of note is that the end result of the church’s continuance in doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, prayer, hospitality, sharing possessions, praise of God, unity, etc. was that people were saved on a daily basis. Added to this is the fact that commands to evangelize are very scarce in the New Testament. What are we to make of this? The…
