Applied Theology (Page 5)

Who do we marry? How should we vote? How do I educate my children? Throughout our lives we are faced with many difficult decisions. How does the Word of God apply to each of these things? Is Theology something that only belongs in Seminaries, or does it have a real life application for how God wants us to live? Theology is great, but it must be applied for us to bear the fruit God has ordained for our lives. In this study we will take theology and apply it to real life situations to see how God’s Word is sufficient for all of life.

Pursuing Marriage – How Do I Know?

How do I know if this is the person I am supposed to marry? 1. Is it lawful? And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.Matthew 19:9 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain…

Pursuing Marriage – What A Relationship Should Look Like

If the parents approve of a relationship, what should it look like? Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of…

Pursuing Marriage – The Woman

If the parents are to oversee and approve the process and the man is to seek out the woman and initiate the relationship, what role does the woman play? He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:John 1:11-12 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there…

Pursuing Marriage – The Man

Jesus’ marriage to His bride was planned by His Father. What is the next thing we can learn from the Gospel concerning the pursuit of marriage? For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.Luke 19:10 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my…

Pursuing Marriage – The Perfect Process (Part 1)

The Bible only portrays one perfect “courtship,” the marriage of Jesus to His bride, the church. From this narrative, we can learn much about the process we should follow in pursuing marriage. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in…

Pursuing Marriage – Singleness

The Apostle Paul has just finished speaking about sexual immorality, sex within marriage, and divorce. He now addresses singleness. Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful. I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be. Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou…

Pursuing Marriage – Introduction (Part 2)

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.Genesis 2:18 Adam was unable to do what God required of him by himself. He needed help. Notice that the primary reason for the creation of the woman and subsequently the purpose of marriage was a multiplication of the work of dominion for God’s glory. Marriage was not about sex, companionship, fun, soul mates, etc. Marriage was…

Pursuing Marriage – Introduction (Part 1)

Before we can talk about pursuing marriage we must rightfully understand who we are, why we were created, what marriage is, and the purpose of marriage. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the…

Church – Worship Services (Part 2)

Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper. For…

Church – Worship Services (Part 1)

Are there Biblical guidelines for what a worship service should contain? Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will…

War – Support of Israel

In light of what we have learned about Just War, how far should Christians go in their support of Israel? Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless…

War – Fighting a Just War

If there is a just war, does the Bible give instructions for how this war should be carried out? And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.Exodus 21:23-25 First, war must be fought with proportional force. This is not to say that we have to handicap our soldiers, but that we do not nuke a country for…
