The Messiah’s Triumph – Psalm 22:22-31

We now come to the conclusion of David’s song. We have seen the Messiah forsaken by God, mocked by His enemies, and cruelly crucified. Through it all He has maintained His faith in God; He knows God will deliver Him. The Messiah now dies in triumph. Proclaiming God’s goodness Even though Jesus is dying a horrible death, He dies for the glory of God. He wants everyone to know how great God is. He wants His resurrection to be proclaimed…

“Mother’s Day Pain” – Luke 1:46-55

Mother’s Day is a day of mixed emotions for many. For many it is a day of joy, the joy of being a mother, the joy of celebrating your mother, and the joy of celebrating the mother of your children. For many though it is a day of pain, pain in singleness, pain in infertility, pain in wayward children, pain in miscarriages, pain in loss of children, pain in abandonment by mothers, pain in abuse from mothers, pain in broken…

“Power to Change” – Romans 6:1-14

As I look around at this world, I see sin destroying everything. Our tempers, pride, and selfishness destroy relationships. Our lack of love, gentleness, and kindness destroy others. Our refusal to forgive destroys our own soul. Our drunkenness, sexual sin, deception, etc. destroy not only ourselves but countless others as well. We live in a world of broken marriages, families, churches, communities, and individuals, all broken by sin. As we look at the visible church we see very little difference.…

“Forsaken by God” – Psalm 22:1-5

Psalm 22 is one of the most remarkable psalms ever written. Although this psalm was written 1000 years before Christ’s death, it describes in detail not only the manner and details of His death, but the exact words He would speak and the exact words His enemies would speak. 500 years before crucifixion was even invented David describes it perfectly. Although written by David this Psalm goes so far beyond anything that David suffered that many modern scholars try to…

The Joy of Victory” – Psalm 21:1-6

Psalm 21 is a song for the king returning from victory in battle. It is divided into two parts. The first part expresses thanksgiving to God for the victory; the second part expresses confidence in future victories. Throughout the whole psalm it is clear that God is the only hope for the king and God alone is to receive the glory and praise. Rejoicing for answered prayer The congregation prayed that God would hear the prayers of their king. They…

God Save the King – Psalm 20:1-9

Psalm 20 is a prayer for the king on the eve of battle. The Hebrew word “of” can also mean “for” or “about.” It is uncertain if David wrote this Psalm or if this Psalm was written as a prayer for David before he went to war. David was a warrior king who was engaged in war almost his entire reign. This was a prayer meant to be sung by the people of God before David led the men off…
