Do You Believe?

Jesus has just finished telling the Pharisees that their opportunity to be saved has passed. They are confused as to what He means. Jesus is the Son of God Jesus has been constantly declaring that He is the Messiah Who has come to earth to save men from their sins. Here, He once again points out His divine origin. The Pharisees have heard this many times, but they still do not understand because they are lost. We must believe in…

The Savior is No Longer Waiting (John 8:21)

Jesus has been having a back and forth discussion with the Pharisees. He now says some very sobering words. Jesus is going We so often envision a Savior Who patiently waits for us to decide to follow Him. Jesus here declares things to be the exact opposite of what we expect. Jesus is not waiting for them; He is going His way. Jesus is leaving them behind. Their window of opportunity has passed. The ship is setting sail without them…

Will You Admit You Are Wrong? (John 8:12-20)

The Pharisees confront Jesus for saying that He is the light of the world that gives life. They say that He is not speaking the truth. They cannot acknowledge the truth The Pharisees judge according to the flesh. They have to make judgments and twist God’s Law in certain ways to appease their flesh. They do not know Who Jesus is, and even if they did, they could not acknowledge Him to be God’s Son. They cannot because they have…

The Light of the World (John 8:12)

Jesus has just allowed the adulterous woman to go free. She acknowledged her guilt by staying at His feet, and He has told her to go and sin no more. Jesus now addresses the crowd that has witnessed this event. Jesus is the light of the world Jesus is emphatic that the woman was delivered from death because of Who He is. There is no focus on the woman or what she has done. Salvation is only in Who Jesus…

Perfect Justice, Perfect Grace (John 8:1-11)

In this passage of Scripture, the Pharisees bring a woman caught in adultery to Jesus. They have no interest in justice, grace, or truth. Their intentions are solely to catch Jesus. Will Jesus stone the woman? Will Jesus reject the law of God and let her go? Jesus effectively ignores them by writing in the sand. It is as if He is giving them time to retreat and withdraw their question. When they keep pressing Him, Jesus gives His answer.…

Do You Really Know the Truth? (John 7:40-53)

After Jesus’ teachings during the Feast of Tabernacles, there is much debate about who Jesus is. Many people believe that He is the Messiah. Others contend that He is not the Messiah, but a false teacher who is deceiving the people. The Pharisees even send soldiers to arrest Jesus, but they return empty handed. When the Pharisees ask the soldiers why they did not arrest Jesus they reply that they had never heard anyone teach like He taught. The Pharisees…

The Thirst of the Soul (John 7:37-39)

Every day during the Feast of Tabernacles water was poured out in the Temple. Although we are not certain as to why this took place, it is surmised that the water was poured out as an offering to the Lord at the beginning of the rainy season as a prayer that the Lord would pour out rain on their dry lands. All men are thirsty We have been created for God, and as such our souls are thirsty and can…

The Door Will Close (John 7:30-36)

The Jews now want to kill Jesus for His Words; however, they do not kill Him at this time. It is not Jesus’ time to die Jesus is Sovereign Lord over all of creation. He will lay down His life in His own timing; no one can take His life from Him. This is not the right time, so Jesus is not taken and killed by the Jews. Many people believe Because of Jesus’ bold teachings and actions, many Jews…

Jesus’ Death

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from…

Do You Know God? (John 7:25-29)

The longer Jesus talks, the more the Jews dislike Him. He is continually pointing out that they are not right with God, and that He is the only way for them to be right with the Father. The Jews are surprised at Jesus’ boldness The Jews want to kill Jesus, and Jesus knows this. However, Jesus continues to boldly speak the truth. This amazes the Jews. People who are walking in the light have no problem speaking the truth openly.…

Jesus the Messiah

We now look at Jesus as the Messiah and the fulfillment of every Old Testament prophecy and type. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was…

The Right Use of the Law (John 7:19-25)

The people are questioning where Jesus’ teachings come from because He teaches differently than what they have heard. Jesus shows them that He is not teaching for His own selfish reasons, but He is seeking God’s glory. He then uses their hatred of Him for healing on the Sabbath day to expose that they are breakers of Moses Law and stand condemned. Moses gave the Law Just as Moses came down from Mt. Sinai with the Law of God, so…
