The Book of John (Page 7)

As we read through John, look for evidence that Jesus is the Divine Savior. John’s Gospel is very helpful for strengthening your faith against religions and cults who deny the Trinity or the deity of Christ. In evangelism, tell others to read the Gospel of John first. The Gospel of John was written to foster saving faith in Jesus Christ.

Perfect Justice, Perfect Grace (John 8:1-11)

In this passage of Scripture, the Pharisees bring a woman caught in adultery to Jesus. They have no interest in justice, grace, or truth. Their intentions are solely to catch Jesus. Will Jesus stone the woman? Will Jesus reject the law of God and let her go? Jesus effectively ignores them by writing in the sand. It is as if He is giving them time to retreat and withdraw their question. When they keep pressing Him, Jesus gives His answer.…

Do You Really Know the Truth? (John 7:40-53)

After Jesus’ teachings during the Feast of Tabernacles, there is much debate about who Jesus is. Many people believe that He is the Messiah. Others contend that He is not the Messiah, but a false teacher who is deceiving the people. The Pharisees even send soldiers to arrest Jesus, but they return empty handed. When the Pharisees ask the soldiers why they did not arrest Jesus they reply that they had never heard anyone teach like He taught. The Pharisees…

The Thirst of the Soul (John 7:37-39)

Every day during the Feast of Tabernacles water was poured out in the Temple. Although we are not certain as to why this took place, it is surmised that the water was poured out as an offering to the Lord at the beginning of the rainy season as a prayer that the Lord would pour out rain on their dry lands. All men are thirsty We have been created for God, and as such our souls are thirsty and can…

The Door Will Close (John 7:30-36)

The Jews now want to kill Jesus for His Words; however, they do not kill Him at this time. It is not Jesus’ time to die Jesus is Sovereign Lord over all of creation. He will lay down His life in His own timing; no one can take His life from Him. This is not the right time, so Jesus is not taken and killed by the Jews. Many people believe Because of Jesus’ bold teachings and actions, many Jews…

Do You Know God? (John 7:25-29)

The longer Jesus talks, the more the Jews dislike Him. He is continually pointing out that they are not right with God, and that He is the only way for them to be right with the Father. The Jews are surprised at Jesus’ boldness The Jews want to kill Jesus, and Jesus knows this. However, Jesus continues to boldly speak the truth. This amazes the Jews. People who are walking in the light have no problem speaking the truth openly.…

The Right Use of the Law (John 7:19-25)

The people are questioning where Jesus’ teachings come from because He teaches differently than what they have heard. Jesus shows them that He is not teaching for His own selfish reasons, but He is seeking God’s glory. He then uses their hatred of Him for healing on the Sabbath day to expose that they are breakers of Moses Law and stand condemned. Moses gave the Law Just as Moses came down from Mt. Sinai with the Law of God, so…

Satisfied by Jesus (John 4:1-32)

Jesus here meets the Samaritan woman at the well. She comes at a time when no other women are there, indicating that she was probably an outcast of her society. Jesus speaks to those society rejects This woman has been apparently rejected by the women in her society, presumably because of her going from man to man. Also, Jews did not speak to Samaritans. However, Jesus is the Friend of Sinners, so He begins a conversation with her. Jesus speaks…

Living for God’s Glory Alone (Part 2) (John 7:14-18)

Jesus begins to teach in the temple. The people are amazed at His teaching and wonder how He is able to teach this way because He has never set under another teacher. Jesus’ answer gives us a great glimpse into the Christian life and the nature of Jesus Christ. Jesus doctrine is not His but God’s Every person is living for someone, and this includes all religious teachers and preachers from every religion. All men teach what benefits them in…

Living For God’s Glory Alone (Part 1) (John 7:1-13)

Because of Jesus’ blunt teachings, many Jews now hate Jesus and want Him dead. Jesus continues His ministry, and He continues to do so without drawing attention to Himself. His family does not understand this and encourages Him to take a more public approach to His ministry. They do not do this because they support Him; instead, they are doing this because they do not believe that He is doing all of these miracles they are hearing about. Jesus has…

The Heart of Christian Community (John 17:20-24)

The second characteristic of the Christian church that we see in Acts 2 is community or fellowship. Almost instantly the people of God united together as one in hospitality and service. What brought about this change? A heart changed by the power of the Gospel. Fellowship cannot truly take place until the heart is changed. In John 17, we see Jesus praying and describing what His followers would be. The Church is One Jesus Christ only has one bride. The…

Love is a Choice to Suffer (John 6:66-71)

Jesus chose Judas Of all the people that Jesus could have chosen, He chose Judas Iscariot to be His disciple. This choice is not for salvation (election) but to be one of His closest friends. Jesus chose to spend several years pouring into Judas’ life. Jesus knew Judas would betray Him Jesus knew the true state of Judas’ heart. He knew that he was the one who would betray Him to His death. Jesus knew that Judas was a wolf…

The Chain of Salvation (John 6:36-65)

John 6 is often considered a problem passage for most believers because of Jesus’ teachings on election and predestination. However, the passage is extremely easy to interpret. Jesus speaks very simply and plainly in the text. The problem lies in what His teachings do to the system of “Christian” doctrine that we have been immersed in. What Jesus says here should change our view of human nature, the Gospel, how we reach the lost, etc. Some believe, others don’t Jesus…
